What to expect as a family member
When someone you love is moving into a supported living service, it’s completely natural to feel a mix of emotions. The information on this page is designed to hopefully ease the emotions you may be feeling and gently guide you through what to expect from us.

Person-Centred Approach
We focus on what matters most to each individual, their lives, their choice, their goals and what makes them happy. We work closely with each supported individual, their family and the wider community to create our tailored support plans for each individual. This is put in place so we can have their best interests in mind when supporting them.

Open & Honest Communication
We understand how important it is for families to feel informed and involved. You’ll always know who to speak to if you have any questions or concerns, and we’ll make sure you feel listened to and respected. We’re committed to open, honest communication that builds trust and keeps everyone working together.

JMS Trust: Person-centred supported living
The Trust final piece of work has been creating a resource called “Our journey, their future: Person-centred supported living” to share the learning and reflections of the families we’ve worked with, in the hopes of helping other families who have been thinking about doing something similar.
JMS Trust hs supported on 17 projects, impacting 64 families and 70 people with learning disabilities, where people now have a home that is bespoke to them.

Our approach promotes dignity, protects rights, and encourages independence. We also prioritise emotional wellbeing, building trusted relationships and responding with empathy and care.

Skilled & caring staff
We believe that great support starts with great people. Our team is made up of dedicated staff who are not only well trained, but genuinely care about the people that they support. All staff have received excellent training and are well versed in person centred approaches, communication and safeguarding.

Inclusion and Independence
We support people to live as independently as possible and to be fully included in their communities. Whether it’s learning new skills, building relationships, volunteering or trying something new, we encourage each person to take part in everyday life in ways that matter to them. Our roles is to provide them the right support at the right time. Always led by the persons own choices, pace and goal.
